Phase 3: Practicing

In our last post we talked about designing, which is the second stage of a presentation and should be done weeks in advance.  For this post, we'll introduce the third stage of a presentation: practicing.  You should start practicing your presentation weeks to days in advance of your talk.  There are a few important points to to think about when you are practicing your presentation:
  • Memorize Your Visuals - This will help you keep your eyes on the audience.
  • Remember Your Three Main Points - We talked about having three main points in our last post.  Be sure to know your three main points, stick to them, and reinforce the ideas behind them.
  • Practice Out Loud - Be sure to practice your presentation out loud so you know how long it will take and what you plan to say at a precise point in time.  It is also a great idea to practice in front of friends, colleagues, and family members.  Doing this ensures that your message is clear to different audiences.
